Dodge waves of enemies trying to stop you from carrying their flag back to your base.
Capture the Flag
Sneak up to the enemy base and capture their flag by touching it. Delivering the flag to your base scores a point for your team. If you are killed while holding a flag, it will automatically be returned to the enemy base.
Your team's flag must be at your team's base to deliver the enemy's flag, so wait until the enemy's flagholder is roasted before making the delivery.
Changes
CTF plays the same as in unpatched JJ2, but better:
- When you score a point, the Eva at your base jumps for joy.
- Gameplay-related alerts in the chat make better of use of colors.
- Added new "x lost the flag," "x made the score," and "x scored for the other team" alerts.
- A gold flag icon is drawn by the names of flagholders.
- The player list shows how many roasts and deaths each player has.
- The team scores in the top left corner are indicated by text color instead of words, to save space.
- If a level doesn't have a Multiplayer Level Start event for both teams, then players will start at any start position.
- Fixed the "flag bug" where flagholders touching the sides of the level caused the chat to be filled with duplicate messages.
- Fixed glitch where flagholders would recapture the flag instantly if roasted while standing at the enemy base.
- Fixed false messages in levels that don't have two CTF Base events.
- Fixed roasting in local games.
Details for Running a Server
- CTF is playable from the main menu or using the
/ctfor/gamemode ctfcommands, or the-capturecommand line option. - Turning on the
/passingcommand allows injured flagholders to pass flags to teammates with full health. (more) - Turning off the
/captureWaitcommand removes a delay before the same player is allowed to interact with multiple CTF bases. (more) - The
[CTF]Level List is used.
Details for Level Designers
Your level must have two CTF Base events, one with the Team parameter set to 0 (Blue) and one set to 1 (Red). You should also include Multiplayer Level Start events, some with Team as 0 and others with Team as 1.
(Nearly) symmetrical layouts are generally preferred, so the teams have equal chances of winning.
Backwards Compatibility
Clients running JJ2+ v0.1 through v6.3 see gold asterisks instead of flag icons.
