Install JJ2+

Welcome to the interactive walkthrough for Getting JJ2+! You'll answer some questions that will reveal your next step.

Do you already have Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus installed?

When you most recently installed JJ2+ through GOG, was it before August 6th, 2026?

In what way did you install JJ2+ through GOG?

Do you want to switch distributions to the new Standalone Mod release? This adds some levels to the game. The Beta Channel will continue to work if you don't, and your JJ2+ will still update itself automatically.

Okay, there's nothing for you to do right now! JJ2+ will continue to work and update itself. If you ever need to install JJ2+ on a different computer or something, you'll probably need to switch to the Standalone Mod, but you can worry about that later.

Do you want to install the Standalone Mod into the same folder where you currently have the Beta Channel? This will take some extra steps.

Follow these steps (and maybe make a backup):

  1. In GALAXY, view "Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files" in your library. From , choose Manage installation → Uninstall
  2. In GALAXY, add "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" to your account. (It's free! Use either the searchbox or the "GOG Mods" section in the left sidebar.)
  3. In GALAXY, install "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" to any folder.
  4. In Windows Explorer, copy or cut all files from the "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" folder to the folder where "Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files" was installed.
  5. In GALAXY, still viewing "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus," from , choose Manage installation → Uninstall
  6. In GALAXY, use ⚙ → Add games & friends → Scan folders for GOG Games on the folder where "Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files" used to be, and where "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" is now.

Run the game to make sure everything worked!

Follow these steps:

  1. In GALAXY, add "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" to your account. (It's free! Use either the searchbox or the "GOG Mods" section in the left sidebar.)
  2. In GALAXY, install "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" to any folder.
  3. If you want to keep your cache/saves/homemade levels/etc., open Windows Explorer, and copy or cut all files except goggame-galaxyFileList.ini and unins000.ini from GOG's "Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files" folder to GOG's "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus" folder.
  4. In GALAXY, go to "Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files" in your library, and from , choose Manage installation → Uninstall

Run the game to make sure everything worked!

JJ2+ is now available as a one-click mod on GOG! Besides the increased visibility, it also adds several new levels to your Home-Cooked Levels menu.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to JJ2+'s new store page
  2. Click the purple "Buy now" button, and go through the steps to "buy" JJ2+ (but it's free, don't worry).
  3. From your account, find "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus." Click it.
  4. Click the blue "DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NOW" button.
  5. Install JJ2+ into the same folder you used before. Overwrite any files it prompts you about.

You're all set! JJ2+ is installed. Every time you run, the autoupdater will also check for new releases.

You already have JJ2+ installed, you don't need to do anything new!

The autoupdater will keep you up-to-date, and so will GOG Galaxy if you use that. If you prefer the GOG website, you can just check your account from time to time to see if anything's changed.

Open JJ2+ and look at the version number in the root menu, following the words "JJ2+ Beta" in the bottom left corner. What version do you have?

You already have JJ2+ installed, you don't need to do anything new! The autoupdater will keep you up-to-date whenever there's a new release.

If you use Windows XP, the autoupdater will tell you about new releases but not download them for you. In that case, download and extract plus.zip into your JJ2+ folder. (At minimum, you need plus.dll, plus.j2a, and plus.j2d.)

You have JJ2+, but it's before we added an autoupdater, so you'll need to download the latest release yourself. Pick your favorite:

Do you have Jazz Jackrabbit 2 installed on your computer?

Run the game and look at the game version number in the bottom left corner of the root menu. What version do you see?

This is an unfinished beta version of the game. It's pretty cool that you have it, but unfortunately, it's not compatible with JJ2+. Do you have another version to try?

You need a non-demo, non-beta release of Jazz 2 to install the JJ2+ mod. Follow these steps:

  1. Buy Jazz Jackrabbit 2 from GOG.com.
  2. Add JJ2+ to your GOG account too.
  3. JJ2+ will now appear in GOG Galaxy and your account on the website, with the name "Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Plus." Install it (either with Galaxy or without, your choice) and play it, just like any other game!

This is a limited version of the game, such as a demo. It doesn't contain the full game's content, and so it's not compatible with JJ2+. Do you have another version to try?

Good news, you're almost there!

Download and install the 1.23 patch. This will update your game to version 1.23, which JJ2+ is compatible with.

You're ready to install JJ2+ onto an existing JJ2 folder! Pick your favorite:

When you launch the game, several company logos should appear before you get to the main menu. Does one of them say "LK Avalon"?

Unfortunately, LK Avalon's version of 1.24 is not compatible with JJ2+. It uses its own set of memory addresses.

Just in case, are you sure you didn't get Jazz Jackrabbit 2 through GOG?

Do you have any other versions of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 to try, besides LK Avalon's 1.24?

That's not Jazz Jackrabbit 2, that's a fangame called Jazz² Resurrection. You need the actual game in order to install JJ2+. Do you have another version to try?
