With decades of history, there's always more Jazz to play!

Levels Included

However you get JJ2+, you'll be able to play the classic four-episode campaign, pitting Jazz Jackrabbit and his siblings against Devan Shell as he tries to rewrite history.

Just launch the game, and choose New Game → Single Player to get to the Episode Select screen. The top episode, "Formerly a Prince," begins the story.

The "Shareware Demo" episode has three unique levels that were released for free and include some unique mechanics. You may also have the "Holiday Hare 1998" and/or "The Secret Files" episodes, which were official expansion packs to Jazz Jackrabbit 2 that added new graphics, levels, enemies, and so on.

Fanmade Levels

The final episode is "Home Cooked Levels" which shows you everything in your JJ2+ folder that isn't part of the official campaigns! Any levels you make yourself will show up here, and any levels you download from the internet. And some distributions of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 come with some fanmade levels already! Check them out, get an idea of what's possible, and start thinking about what else you'd like to play or create…

JJ2+ gives you seven great Single Player (or Cooperative) experiences to play right away!

Ae1GOG — "Ardent Exertion"

Six long, winding levels filled with goodies, with six high-quality fanmade tilesets! It's more Jazz Jackrabbit 2 for you! This is the work of Sampo "Blade" Vesanen, one of the JJ2 community's most beloved creators. It's edited from several of his levels to chain them into a single episode, to replace the music with standard JJ2 music for copyright reasons, and to lightly modify some of the text signs.

BurrowsvilleGOG — "Burrowsville?"

Set in a Halloween-colored version of the Holiday Hare 1998 world, this spooky adventure pits you against ghosts and skeletons. Steadily climb higher and higher, or stop to search for the many secrets! Edited from Slaz's original to replace the music with standard JJ2 music for copyright reasons.

Ea1GOG — "Energized Action"

The prequel to Ardent Exertion, Energized Action is edited from Sampo "Blade" Vesanen's original to replace the music with standard JJ2 music for copyright reasons. This beloved episode is ten levels long and takes you through Blade's evolution as an artist and level designer!

Mini Boss Rush

Any good game mod has a boss rush! Hold down your fire button and battle JJ2's bosses two at a time, although they all have reduced health. It even includes the Rocket Turtle boss that JJ2+ expands from JJ2's unfinished code! Created by Violet CLM.

plusEnscripted — "AngelScript"

If you remember JJ2 from back in the day, but you've never played JJ2+ before, this will wow you as an opening taste of how scripting can touch up normal gameplay. Changing palettes, moving bridges, an enemy gauntlet, a new boss battle, and an automated sequence across deadly water! Created by Violet CLM for JJ2+.

primpXmasGOG — "Jingle Jumble"

Another entry in Jazz's long history of winter-themed maps, this features non-linear gameplay as you explore an open world to find at least 15 glowing presents. Also some wintery enemy variants and custom pickup sprites. Some artwork is originally by Lapper with the conditions "give credit if you use it… you can use it for whatever you want." This level is edited from Primpy's original to remove copyrighted graphics and music.

SEdecGOG — "Decimation"

You'll need to use mouse aiming to beat this fast, wild challenge. Use the Esc Menu Box to set up your mouse aim controls.
Ceiling turrets and mecha-riding lizards shoot flashy weapons at you, and you can shoot them right back! This level is also playable as a Battle level in Party Mode, with no enemies, even more weapons, and a more open layout. Edited from Seren's original to remove copyrighted graphics and music

Find More Levels

Many thousands of fanmade levels are on Jazz 2 Online!

The filters right above the downloads list let you pick and choose what you're looking for. For example, here's Single Player (or Cooperative) levels rated at least 6 out of 10, from newest to oldest.

Each page has its own big Download link. Then once you've done playing the level, make sure to write a review… accounts on Jazz 2 Online are free!

Installing

Most fanmade levels on the internet, including everything form Jazz 2 Online, are available in ZIP format. Open the ZIP and extract all the files into your JJ2+ folder.

For example, if you download a ZIP containing CloneV.j2l, and your game is at C:\Games\Jazz2Plus\Jazz2.exe, then you should extract that level (and all the other files in the ZIP) to C:\Games\Jazz2Plus\CloneV.j2l.

Single Player

Single Player levels ought to appear in the Home Cooked Levels episode. If you downloaded a fanmade episode, often only the first level will appear in the list: that's normal. Beat the first level to play the second level, and so on.

If you can't find the level in the Home Cooked Levels episode, you have three options:

Multiplayer

Besides browsing Jazz 2 Online directly, also check out this visual guide to past Battle & CTF maps. That'll give you some ideas for what to download!

Some multiplayer levels may appear in Home Cooked Levels, but it's often easier to host a server instead. Don't worry, your server can be passworded or unlisted, you won't have random people joining you if you don't want them to.

Older Levels

Epic Games held contests in 1999 to submit fanmade levels to include with the Christmas Chronicles and The Secret Files expansions, and you can still find those levels in the Home Cooked Levels episodes of some distributions! Highlights include:

And don't forget you can use the level editor to make your own!
